January 21, 2012: Helping the Body and Brain Work More Efficiently—Gail Ludwig, M.S. CCC and Marlene Suliteanu. Learn about HANDLE, a Holistic Approach to Neuro Development & Learning Efficiency. This is a system approach” that includes one’s physical body, brain, emotional make-up, social components, environmental factors and nutrition to enhance sensory-motor systems and processing.

February 18, 2012: Organization for Daily Living— Pedro Leon, Home Health Services. Keeping track of things and maintaining good organization are often difficult following a brain injury. Pedro will demonstrate techniques and discuss ways to simplify and organize your life.

April 21, 2012: Sights and Symptoms— Dana Dean Optometry, O.D. . Impaired vision is frequently a problem after a brain injury. Dr. Dean will discuss some of the symptoms indicating a vision problem and rehabilitation following an injury.

May 19, 2012: Getting Back to Work— Nicole Pelterkian, MA., SDBIF Board Member and Bree Kennedy,
San Diego Community College District. Many brain injury survivors hope that in time, they will be able to
return to work. Nicole and Bree will discuss ideas to help you assess whether you are ready to return to work and share resources from the workability program through the Community College District.

June 16, 2012: Defining Success and Quality of Life After an ABI—Lisa Carulli. What does it mean to find success and quality of life after an ABI? Lisa will share research that she is doing for the Educational Leadership program at SDSU.

July, 2012: THERE WILL BE NO MEETING THIS MONTH.

August 18, 2012: The ABI Program—John Bromma, M.S., CRC, S.D. Community College District. What is the Acquired Brain Injury Program? John will lead a discussion with a panel of survivors who attend the ABI program at Mesa College. Find out if this program could help you.

November 17, 2012: Getting at the Mechanisms Underlying TBI: A Basic Research Strategy—Ralph
Greenspan, Ph.D. Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind. Basic research is the most effective path towards new treatments. Current research into how the brain responds to injury and treatment strategies will be shared.

December 15, 2012: Holiday Party —Come join the fun and celebrate the holidays. Entertainment will be provided by the Sharp Players under the direction of Richard Green, L.C.S.W., Sharp Rehabilitation Center. SDBIF volunteers will be recognized.
